For lovers of beer — Big Rock beer that is — and super cute amateur commercials and print ads, the Big Rock Eddies is the ticket. Over the past 21 years, this sudsy soiree has launched the acting, directing and graphic design careers of many. And the full-on party is not only a ton of fun but philanthropic as well, with funds raised supporting local organizations.

Inclement weather certainly didn’t dampen the enthusiasm at the 21st annual Eddies held June 16 in the Jack Singer concert hall. Scores of guests dressed in their Hollywood finest (wackiest?) to strut down the red carpet, sip suds and take in the viewing of finalists’ commercials and print ads. Sharing in the more than $20,000 in cash prizes were: Piers Rae, who won $10,000 for his first-place Home Brewed commercial; Brianna Schretlen and Leah Pearson, who won $5,000 for their second-place Anamorphic commercial; Adam Hunter, who won $3,000 for his third-place All Grown Up commercial; Brianna Schretlen, who won again by winning $3,000 and first-place honours for her Mild Mild West print ad; Bill Mallory, who won $2,000 and second place with the Taboo Etherealness print ad; Zoe McMullen, who took third-place honours and $1,000 for the Employee of the Month ad; and Emily Ormonde, who won $1,500 in the Social Responsibility category with Cross the Road.

Others in attendance this night included: Big Rock president and CEO Bob Sartor and his wife Andrea Sartor; CFO Barb Feit and her husband Jason Feit; Brew Master Paul Gautreu; Anne Baxter and Lindsay Rae a.k.a. The Sharkettes; Malcolm Albery and Shairole Henchall; Cheshire Studios owner Dianne Gibson; Kathleen McNally, daughter of Big Rock Founder Ed McNally and his wife Linda, with her husband George Leitch and his daughter Margie Leitch; X 92.9 radio morning stars and red carpet hosts Carly Meyers and Fraser Tuft; Big Rock’s Alastair Smart and his daughters Catharine and Hannah; Marc Brooker; Big Rock’s Brian Rowland; Jones Brown Inc.’s David Gray and SFU’s Breanna Gray; community leaders Brian and Stephanie Felesky; Clay Riddell and Maria-Liisa Barnby; Big Rock PR and Digital Communications wizard Bryce Bowman; ATP marketing director Kelly Phelan with Brenda Lieberman, who was one of the evening’s judges; FKM Associates’ Miles Matulionis; Balbi & Company legal ace Lonny Balbi, Q.C.; BMO Nesbitt Burns’ Stacy Soutiere and her sister Cowtown Opera’s Ainsley Soutiere; and Avenue Magazine editor-in-chief and judge this night Kathe Lemon and her sister Sarah Lemon.
